Twenty affirmations for growing through discomfort — for the stretch where progress and unease arrive together.

Growth is sold as a good feeling and mostly is not one. The parts that actually change you — the conversation you avoided, the thing you were bad at in public — are uncomfortable while they happen and only look like progress afterwards.
These twenty affirmations are for during. They do not promise the discomfort away; several of them name it directly as part of the deal.
Not all discomfort is productive, and the difference is worth checking. Useful discomfort is the kind you recover from and get slightly better at; harmful discomfort accumulates, wrecks your sleep, and leaves you worse each week.
So keep a floor under it. Growth that requires you to override every signal from your body is usually just endurance with better branding, and endurance is not a strategy that lasts a year.

Check recovery. If you bounce back within a day or two and the thing is slightly easier next time, it is growth. If it compounds week over week and nothing gets easier, it is strain and the answer is to change something.
Because you are measuring from inside it, against a standard that rises as you improve. The reliable fix is a written record — comparing today with six months ago rather than with the version of yourself you would like to be.
You can improve at things you already do comfortably. Genuine expansion of what you are capable of tends to require being bad at something first, and that is the uncomfortable part.
That is normal and one of these lines says so. Growth is usually invisible day to day and obvious in retrospect, which is why the note-keeping matters more than the noticing.
